How Team 218 started
The name comes from our first home office at 218 Main Street in Port Byron, Illinois. That is where Chuck started building websites in 2014 while working in the construction equipment industry. Kim brought her accounting background to the business side. Together, we figured out that the thing Iowa businesses needed most was not a flashier website. It was a web team that actually stuck around after launch.
We moved from Port Byron to Iowa in 2016, with stops in North Liberty and Tiffin before putting down roots in Williamsburg. The town felt right from the start. Small enough to know your neighbors, close enough to Iowa City and Cedar Rapids to serve clients across the corridor, and positioned on I-80 to reach businesses statewide. We have been here ever since.
What we bring to the table
Chuck is the technical lead. His background in the construction equipment industry taught him how businesses actually operate, and his experience building Aerial-Ease, a complete custom business management application for an equipment rental company, means he approaches web development with a systems mindset, not just a design mindset. He handles the code, the SEO, the schema markup, and the performance optimization. When something breaks, he is the one who fixes it.
Kim handles client relations, user experience, and the business operations. Her accounting background means the books are clean, the invoices are accurate, and the projects stay on budget. More importantly, she is the one who makes sure your website feels right to the people who use it. She bridges the gap between what is technically correct and what actually works for real visitors.
Together, we cover the full stack: strategy, design, development, SEO, content, maintenance, and client communication. No subcontractors. No outsourcing. When you hire Team 218, you get Team 218.
How we work differently
We do not take deposits. We use a simple working agreement that covers the project scope and protects both sides, but we do not invoice until your site is live and you are satisfied with the result. That is how confident we are in what we deliver.
We include 12 months of maintenance. Every website we build comes with a full year of WordPress maintenance and care at no additional cost. Updates, backups, security monitoring, and minor content changes are all handled. Because launching a website is the beginning of the work, not the end.
We answer the phone. This might sound like a small thing, but if you have ever tried to get a hold of your web designer after the project launched, you know it is not. We are responsive because our reputation depends on it.
Williamsburg is home
We are proud members of the Williamsburg Chamber of Commerce. We live here, work here, and care about seeing this community thrive. When we build a website for a Williamsburg business, we get to see the results in real life. We drive past their storefront. We hear from their customers. That feedback loop does not exist when you work with an agency in another state.
