Google Penalizing Non Mobile Sites

Recently we received an email from Google Webmaster Tools alerting us to usability issues on one of the sites we maintain. The subject of the email read as follows: “Fix mobile usability issues found on http://nameofourwebsite.com/“.

The email went on to say that Google systems has tested 13 pages from our site and found that 100% of them have critical mobile usability errors. The errors on these 13 pages severely affect how mobile users are able to experience your website. These pages will not be seen as mobile-friendly by Google Search, and will therefore be displayed and ranked appropriately for smartphone users.

The email continues with specific issues and suggestions for fixing them.

The site in question is an older HTML/CSS site that is a perfectly good website and serves the owner well. We’ve been meaning to re-design the site and incorporate Responsive Web Design sometime this Summer. With this notification from Google, the timetable has moved up and we’ll rework the site sooner rather than later.

After talking about it for some time, it’s now true. Google is penalizing Non Mobile Sites. It’s never good to receive an email from Google telling you your website is going to be penalized. How many of you have received a similar notification? Take steps now to make sure you’re not affected by the latest from Google.

If you have a website that is affected by this latest modification by Google and you’re not sure what to do about it, get in touch with us and we’ll be glad to help. Use our Contact page and we’ll respond ASAP.
