Green Gables Marina

With the impending penalty from Google on non mobile-friendly websites we wanted to bring the Green Gables Marina website into compliance.  The existing site was built with HTML and CSS but was not mobile-friendly.  Team 218 has been managing this site since its’ inception and we wanted to make sure the site would not be affected by Google’s upcoming algorithm change which will penalize non mobile-friendly websites in its’ search rankings.

We rebuilt the site using WordPress and our modified version of the Divi theme from Elegant Themes.  We were able to re-use much of the content so that made the job fairly easy.  After installing a fresh version of WordPress in its’ own directory we uploaded our child theme and all the plugin files in one step using “Duplicator”.  Next we created some new image files and spent a few hours working on the layout and overall design & styling of the site.  We combined a couple of pages from the existing site into a single, longer page on the new site.  We also built the ability for customers to schedule maintenance and repairs on their boats via a simple online form that gets emailed to the owners.

Testing always takes up more time than it seems it should and we spent a considerable amount of time testing the site on various devices.  There are lots of device “simulators” available but we prefer to test on the actual devices because sometimes the simulators don’t always catch everything.  Once we were satisfied we copied a couple of files, undated the location of our new site and we were live.

We ran the new site through Google’s Mobile Friendly Test (here’s the link: and were awarded the grade of Awesome! This page is mobile-friendly from Google.  Just what we wanted to accomplish with this rebuild.

If you have a website that is not mobile-friendly or if you’re not sure if it is, just visit Google’s Mobile Friendly Test page and you’ll know for sure how Google views your site.

If you don’t have a website but are thinking about getting one, please make sure you get a mobile-friendly site.  You don’t want to be one of the people that get hit by Google’s latest update.

If you have any questions please get in touch with Team 218 Web Design and we’ll do our best to help you.
