Website Design Ideas

Website design ideas and inspiration can come from lots of different sources. Sometimes the best source is doing a little web surfing. Google some search terms you would expect people to use if they were searching for YOUR business. Take a look at some of the websites that turn up and bookmark any sites you like. It could be the layout of the site, color schemes, the way the menu works or any number of things. After a while, you’ll start to get a sense of what you like and what you don’t. The information you gather will be important when it comes time to meet with a web developer.

Online Impressions

Online impressions are created by your website, your social media accounts (Facebook, Twitter, Tumble, and the like), emails you send and receive, and search results. These factors combine to determine how someone perceives you or your business. People may have never met you or heard anything about you but a few minutes spent online can easily help them form an opinion of you – good or bad. Fair? No, not at all but that’s the reality of today’s society. Want an example? You are forming an opinion about Team 218 right now!

The impression you make on your website starts with the domain name you choose. Ideally, your domain name should easily identify your business. Steve Jobs knew the importance of the impression your organization can make online.

Steve Jobs Quote

Your website hosting provider is another important yet often overlooked factor. Make sure the web host you choose has good reviews and is quick to respond to problems. Skimping on web hosting is seldom a good idea.

Responsive Design

You’ve probably heard the term by now. Responsive design simply means building your website utilizing techniques to ensure your website can be displayed nicely regardless of the device used to access it. Desktop, tablet, smartphone… your website should look good on any of them. Google has even developed a test to determine if a website is “mobile-friendly”. You can check any website and see the results using Google’s Mobile-Friendly Test.

SEO - Getting Found

The whole point of having a website is to promote yourself, your product or your company (usually all 3). In order to do that successfully, you have to utilize some specific techniques to incorporate SEO right from the start. Coming along after the fact and trying to add SEO to an existing, poorly performing website isn’t nearly as effective as crafting the website with proper search techniques from the ground up. All the gears mesh correctly and you get much better results.
